This blog and I make up to break up over again but I love it the same!!
Here’s some brand new music to pull you through your Monday. It comes from the lovely Corrine Bailey Rae; this is one of my favorite tracks from her. Period. This song is sexy, funky and a different sound from her. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
So glad to see her back on the scene after the tragic event of losing her husband. After a lengthy hiatus, she is back with a very intimate sound of love and loss and all those feelings in between. She’s back, the album is wonderful & if you dont own it yet… then you really should.
“… I was gonna kill a couple niggas, but they did it to themselves….”
Ok. I don’t plan to discuss this for a long period of time because I DO NOT want to give this situation more energy than it deserves. However, on that note I will say that I think Beanie Sigel is damn fool. After listening to all the interviews and diss records, I sincerely hope Jay never responds to him; hes not worth it. Fools like that you cant give any attention. Beanie Sigel doesn’t even deserve the words Ive used to pen this statement, but since he wants attention, lets entertain him. A little.
Make no mistake. Beanie is definitely one of my favorite emcee’s on the mic. He’s dope – naturally. No gimmicks (back then), no faking & no fronting, he’s a talented dude. Too bad he’s not acting like it. Listening to his interviews I started losing a lot of love for Beans. He’s still dope, will never take that from him, but this recent publicity stunt got me looking at him a little funny, as you should.
I think this is one of the main problems with hip-hop artists; they’re heads (usually both of them) are in the wrong place. In no other genre of music, do people go out of their way, blowing studio time to talk shit to and about each other. In a time & place where Gucci Mane & Mariah Carey remixes of “My Boo” and OJ da JuiceMan (marinate on that name if you will) gets more spins that Mos Def, QTip, Common, The Roots, Consequence – any of those artists who all have recently dropped DOPE shit. Then you get an artist of Sigel’s caliber who is dope and has some mainstream appeal, we all love him & cant wait for his next single & you choose to put out a diss record? Really? & then you do it with 50 Cent of all people!!
Why come, homie?
Radio is in such a bad place, Rihanna is rapping on tracks and we calling it dope. Nicki Minaj & the rest of Lil’ Wayne’s goons are taking over the radio. 50 Cent sings on more hooks then Ne-Yo; we need rap back. I just new that whenever he got released from prison or wherever he was gonna give us some dopeshit but I was way wrong.
When I heard him on Charlamagne’s radio show, I was thinking damn, this is bad. Where’s Jay?? But then, he kept going on and on about it; another radio show, another interview with 50 cent (of ALL people) and he really shocked me. More than that, annoyed me. He just sounds desperate to me. Interview after interview he goes on & on about Bentley’s, Pro Keds, State Property and how foul everyone is and what it comes down to (in my mind) is that Beanie Sigel fucked up. He’s been in & out of jail for as long as he’s been popular. He could very well have all the success he thinks he deserves if his ass stayed out of jail long enough.
On another note, half of the things he said was some of the funniest shit I ever heard in all my life. Mentally, hes a child – confused and in need of direction. Im not sure he knows how he feels about Jay. In one interview he opens up with him & 50 discussing the “footprints” on his heart that Jay left and proceeded with about 16 minutes of pointing fingers and placing blame on everyone but himself. At the end of interview he even goes so far to say that he’ll “put his foot on Jay’s neck until he responds”. Excuse me, did you say again that this was your friend??
He then goes forward with this incredible rant & while im sitting & listening to the interview, the only question that I have is, “what the fuck is your point?” Pardon my french, but son, what the fuck do you want? Money? A deal? A hug? Commisary? I mean really Beanie, what exactly is your reasoning??
On top of that, you turn up with 50 cent!! Wherever there’s drama, there he’ll be acting as a hype man. (SMH) Im not sure what will become of this situation… and honestly I dont really care.
In my opinion, I think Beanie Sigel just finished him self.
Its a glorious morning… I pray you have a blessed & traffic free week… Lol…
Friday I was invited to a party to see Little Dragon perform, however, Mother Nature poured her angst all over NJ and made me late and I missed the performance. I know, I know… talk about constant surprises lol…
But here some dopeshit for your Monday morning… if you dont know Little Dragon, I suggest you step your game up!
“They say they never really miss you til you dead or you gone, but on that note Im leaving after this song…”
Not likely. Although Jay frequently talks about retiring, I dont think there will be a day when he puts down the mic for good and quite frankly, I dont think he should. There is a major void in hip-hop, so much that we thinking the little kid from Degrassi is the second coming of (insert any dope rapper). There are very few rappers with substance. Rappers that possess that “stuff” that renders you speechless when you hear a track and all you can do is nod you head & turn the music up. *cue any Reasonable Doubt song* When you strip away all the extras, the beat, the auto-tune, the extra niggas on stage, the videos & the hoes, its all about the lyrics.
Lil Wayne and Drake dont have that ability. They are not dope to me. Lil Wayne is okay. Just okay. Half the time hes inaudible so I dont know how he can be dope when you cant understand what he’s saying. Also, making words rhyme does not make you a great rapper. Im so tired of people putting steam behing rappers because their words rhyme. If thats the case, everybody in the 2nd grade should be hip-hop stars. Sometimes he say some cool shit but lets not over do it. Thats the same for Drake. I heard the freestyle. Me personally, Im not impressed. If he wasnt talking about weed & drinking (by the way he doesnt smoke or drink) or girls, he was saying “Yo” every 8 bars. Spare me.
Hip Hop/Rap is more than about the beat and the catchy hook. Its the lyrics. The wordplay is the essence of the art form and I feel we’ve lost sight of that. Now, dont let me be misunderstood. Im not saying Jay-Z is the be all and end all of hip-hop. There’s a plethora of MC’s that dont get radio time that are dope as hell but because they dont base their careers on money, cars, clothes & hoes, they dont get the spins (you see what I just did there lol).
But hopefully, Jay can bless our ears once again. He recently announced that he’s finally releasing the greatly anticipated BluePrint 3, same date as The Blueprint back in 2001. However, 50 cent is releasing his Before I Self Destruct on the same day. Hmmm.
You all know I dont mince words and I wont start now. I dont like 50. He USED to be dope. I think those 9 bullets stimulated his lyrical content but after the Get Rich of Die Trying album, hes been singing on rap songs ever since. The thrill is gone. He’s wack. He has nothing to talk about anymore so now he just picks on other rappers. Poor Ja-Rule, 50 just came right in and stole his whole style. All 50 does is sing and if this album is anything like that “Yeah, Okay, Alrite” song, im not interested. Before you self destruct? Too late. Go sell vitamin water homie. Its not in your blood anymore. You treat your last like your first and the thirst should be the same as the day you came…. aaaaand its not. I dont even view 50 dropping on the same day as a challenge because I know that 50 wont bring it like he used to. Hes not concerned. This wont be a monumental moment in hip-hop so dont get your hopes up.
I highly recommend you buy both albums though. Lets support our artists… and thats dopeshit.
